Uniform Ban Guidelines

Uniform Ban

The uniform ban goes into effect at 12:01am on Monday, August 17, 2026. While the uniform ban is a show of solidarity, it should not compromise on safety. During the uniform ban, members are expected to follow all safety requirements while standing together in the job action. Please review the following guidelines:

  • Safety vests MUST be worn where required. This is a WorkSafe safety requirement. Members are encouraged to cover company logos with tape, provided reflective material, required safety markings, and the vest’s safety function are not affected.
    SAFETY REQUIREMENTS ALWAYS COME FIRST.
  • Normal footwear requirements remain in effect.
✓Closed toe ✓Closed heel ✓Suitable for safe work ✓ Heel no higher than 2”
The uniform ban does NOT change footwear requirements.
  • Members may wear appropriate non-uniform clothing. Clothing must be safe, appropriate for the workplace, and suitable for duties.
  • NO racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic or discriminatory logos, clothing, patches, images, slogans or materials contrary to the Human Rights Code. Our job action should unite us — not divide us.
  • Operators may continue to wear their designated uniform if they choose. Unifor 111 & 2200 encourage Operators participating in the job action to cover company logos with tape, where this can be done safely. This demonstrates solidarity while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • YES, Unifor shirts, hats, jackets, pins and other Union clothing may be worn where safe and appropriate, provided they do not interfere with safety equipment or safe vehicle operation.

IF YOU ARE QUESTIONED…

Remain calm, respectful and professional. Do not argue or become confrontational.
If unsure, contact your Unifor 111 or 2200 Union representative before taking action.

REMEMBER…

  • Follow every applicable safety requirement.
  • Stand together in the uniform ban.
  • No discriminatory, hateful or offensive clothing.
